In general I have no problem with anyone, of any race or religion, who wants to live in peace and prosperity. However, when people come to Canada, teach extremism and glorify political assassinations, I draw a line. I have had Sikh friends in the past. My favorite math & computer teacher was Sikh. In fact it was his lessons that ended up inspiring me to go to college and get a job with IBM shortly after I graduated. What the Sikh community in Canada needs to do is call out and distance itself from the extremist elements that glorify terrorism & promote crime & volence.

There is a distinct pattern of online hate against Sikhs It usually happens around anniversary of 1984 attacks on Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple or Harmandir Sahib) and it happened in June, AND second time you will notice increase in online hate against Sikhs during he periods

The Indus Water Treaty, signed in Karachi by Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistani president Ayub Khan on 19 September 1960, allowed only 19.71% of the total discharge of the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas, and Satluj to India and gifted 80.29% to Pakistan. This zabardasti ka socialism is the bane of this country. Making gifted children sit with regular kids in coaching is doing wrong to both of them. The gifted child needs to be in his cohort where the teachers can pace the curriculum and explore more depth based on the children's caliber. Similarly, a less gifted child will require more handholding, more explaining and more practice to understand complex stuff. One of the KEY reasons that many kids in school are not comfortable with Maths is because when the teacher explains something, he/she finds quick positive feedback from the 4-5 kids who are naturally good at Maths and may be other 4-5 who are also OK. Rest 25-30 kids are simply too scared and confused to even ask and the teacher moves onto next topic. Don't repeat the same mistake at the literal cutting edge of preparation.

42 years and the Sikh community has yet not done any introspection as to how and why Bhindranwale came to make #Goldentemple complex as his bastion to run a parallel government in Punjab, plan murders and order assassination. Why he chose to make Shri Darbar Sahib his last stand and make it a battleground. Today, I experienced something that left me deeply saddened. After checking into a hotel in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, I was later (After an hour) asked to leave because of concerns linked to my Kashmiri identity. The owner was courteous & candid. He acknowledged that the decision was unfair and hurtful, but said he was following instructions. I appreciated his honesty and left without any confrontation. I am not sharing this to seek sympathy or assign blame. I share it because such moments remind us that while laws can unite a nation, trust and understanding take longer to build. For decades, countless Kashmiris have worked to strengthen the bonds between Jammu & Kashmir and the rest of India. Most Indians have welcomed us with warmth and respect. Yet incidents like this show that stereotypes and apprehensions persist. My faith in India and its people remains unshaken. I hope we continue moving toward a future where no citizen is judged by their region, faith, or identity, but by their character and conduct. That is the India we must strive for. My family moved to the US when I was 8, but by the time I turned 20, my dad was still on an H1B (waiting to get processed for a green card). Once I turned 21, I would age out as his dependent, despite the fact that I basically grew up in the US. I thought I'd have to become a code monkey after college, and even that only if I was lucky enough to win the H1B lottery. Otherwise, back to India. I had become a huge fan of @paulg's essays in college. I was actually depressed that my desire to start a startup or do something entrepreneurial was basically hopeless. Working on the promising podcast I was doing as a side project? A beyond impossible pipe dream. Even after 9 years, my dad wasn't able to get a green card - and the lines were only getting longer over time. I figured I'd be an old man before I could quit some FANG job and build my own thing. By some miracle, COVID travel restrictions cleared out the lines, and I got my green card literally months before I would have aged out. If not for this unbelievable coincidence, I would not be hosting the podcast. In the best case, I would be shifting pixels around in the 3rd sub-sub-menu of some big tech software. I'm incredibly grateful I made it through. But it's unconscionable that we put the kids of high skilled immigrants through all this anxiety, and in many cases make them repeat the nerve-racking indentured life trajectory that they had to watch their parents go through.

Many are asking how we convinced New York lawmakers that addition of "caste" as a separate protected class runs afoul of equal protection and due process concerns while risking the institutionalizing of inaccurate, racial science theories about people of Indian origin and descent. It is a cri de couer about the state of the humanities and the interpretive social sciences.
