“This isn’t about crumbs from the cathedral. It’s about exposure to the rich Anglican choral tradition.” Really enjoyed looking at how the Church can support singing in state schools. We sang in assembly every day at my school in the 80s!

🇬🇧 Most British schoolchildren are taught about Magna Carta.
They are taught it was sealed in twelve fifteen at Runnymede.
They are taught it is the foundation of English liberty.
They are taught it is one of the most important documents in human history.
They are not taught what came next.
They are not taught about the eighty years between twelve fifteen and twelve ninety-five when ordinary Englishmen forced three successive kings to write down, for the first time in any kingdom in medieval Europe, what English law was, what English liberty was, and how an English king must govern.
They are not taught about the Charter of the Forest, which restored the right to graze, gather firewood, and live on common land, and which remained in force for seven hundred and fifty-four years.
They are not taught about the Provisions of Oxford in twelve fifty-eight, often called England's first written constitution, which placed the king under a council of fifteen and required Parliament to meet three times a year.
They are not taught about the Provisions of Westminster in twelve fifty-nine, which subjected the barons themselves to the same law they had forced upon the king.
They are not taught about Simon de Montfort, an earl born in France who died for England, who summoned the first Parliament in English history to include ordinary commoners alongside the great lords.
They are not taught about the Statute of Marlborough in twelve sixty-seven, which is the oldest piece of statute law in the United Kingdom still in force today. ⚖️
Seven hundred and fifty-nine years old.
If you've ever taken a debt to court in England, you've used it. 🏠 If you've ever rented a home, you've been protected by it. 👑 If a creditor can't lawfully drag your possessions into the street to settle what you owe, that's because of a law signed seven hundred and fifty-nine years ago.
They are not taught about the Model Parliament of twelve ninety-five, summoned by Edward the First, which became the shape of every English Parliament since.
Eighty years. Three successive kings. The first written constitution in any kingdom in medieval Europe.
It was not given to them. It was not handed down from God or king or Pope.
✍️ It was written. By Englishmen. For England.
🇬🇧 The British write their own history. They always have.
This one needed more than a thread. The full story is in our video, watch it below 👇

Let's check in on Beatrice.
Beatrice is a four-year-old Light Sussex hen in the back garden of a retired widower in a Yorkshire village. She arrived three years ago with three other hens, brought by his daughter to "give him something to look after." It worked. He talks to them. He pretends, to himself, that he doesn't.
Beatrice has been busy this morning.
5.42am. Beatrice exits the coop first. She is always first. The other three hens, by long arrangement, wait. The arrangement was not agreed in writing. The arrangement is, by every working measure, in force.
5.51am. Beatrice locates a slug on the lower lavender. She eats the slug. The label on a supermarket egg box would describe Beatrice as "vegetarian-fed." Beatrice has not read the label. The slug, by 5.52am, is no longer the slug.
6.18am. Beatrice eats a worm turned up by the man's spade in the vegetable bed. The man is digging the bed because Beatrice has, by long observation, taught him that digging the bed at 6.15am produces worms, which produces hens nearby, which produces a small social arrangement that the man has come to look forward to.
7.04am. Beatrice eats a beetle. She eats it with the considered focus of a hen who knows that beetle protein is, by every measure, the highest-quality protein available to her, and that the beetles do not, on the whole, last long once identified.
8.30am. Beatrice lays an egg. The egg weighs 64 grams. It contains, by every available analysis: a complete amino acid profile, choline, lutein, zeaxanthin, B12, vitamin D, vitamin A, selenium, iodine, and cholesterol of the kind that the human body, contrary to forty years of dietary advice, regulates by itself. The egg is, by every honest nutritional measure, one of the most complete single foods on earth. The man eats it for breakfast at 8.45am.
10.00am. Beatrice eats the man's vegetable peelings. Carrot tops. Cabbage stalk. The end of a leek. A small piece of stale bread. This is, in industrial poultry terms, an unauthorised diet. In actual hen terms, it is the diet hens evolved on for several thousand years before anyone thought to feed them only one thing.
11.30am. Beatrice kills a rat. It is the second rat she has killed this year. She does not eat the rat (rats are too large) but she does, with great commitment, prevent it from getting near the feed. Beatrice is, by quiet local agreement, the most effective pest-control system in the village.
1.15pm. Beatrice naps in a dust bath of her own construction. The dust bath has been positioned, by Beatrice, in the precise spot in the garden that gets afternoon sun for the longest. She did not ask the man's permission. She did not need to.
3.40pm. The man, in the kitchen, calls her name.
Beatrice comes.
She does not come for the daughter. She does not come for the postman. She comes for the man.
Things Beatrice has, in one ordinary day, debunked:
That hens are vegetarian. They are not. They are obligate omnivores, and the supermarket "vegetarian-fed" label is, by every honest reading, a deficiency diet sold at premium prices.
That eggs are bad for you. Forty years of dietary advice, substantially walked back since 2015. Eggs are now, in most modern guidelines, considered one of the most nutrient-dense foods available.
That chicken farming is, by definition, cruel. Industrial poultry, in many cases, is. Beatrice's life is not. The honest argument targets the system, not the species.
That backyard hens spread disease. The disease vector data points overwhelmingly at intensive operations. Beatrice's three companions and the half a million UK households who keep small flocks are not the problem.
That eggs are a luxury. The man pays approximately £15 a year per hen in feed. He gets, in return, around 280 eggs, two dead rats, a worked vegetable bed, a dust bath in the right spot, and a small quiet relationship with a creature who comes when he calls.
Beatrice is, by every honest measure, the smallest unit of working agriculture in Britain.
She is also, by quiet local consensus, the reason the man still cooks a proper breakfast.
Eat the egg.
Be the hen.
Resource the backyard.

That tribes from Alberta would appeal to the King is evidence of the importance and authority that the crown still holds:
“would affirm their treaties with the Crown and the rights that are afforded under them, they said.”

We had a good thing, Britain.
A really good thing.
You taught us this game. Mahan studied you. We just wrote bigger checks.
The deal was simple. We spend the trillions. Fight the hard wars. We even let you sit out Vietnam. And you? You hold the chokepoints you already own. You run Lloyd’s. Ships in the narrows, insurance on the hulls.
That’s all you had to do and we would back your interests with the strongest military and financial markets in the world.
That was the deal.
Now look at you.
You gave up Aden. Fine. You kept Diego Garcia so we could reach it with bombers. Now you’re giving that away too. To a Chinese client state.
You built Israel to guard Suez. Now your Foreign Secretary threatens to arrest their PM.
You built a base nearby to back it up. Iran hit your base in Cyprus. You didn’t have one warship in the Mediterranean. Spain got there first. Spain.
You gave up Hong Kong but backed Taiwan. Now you’re letting China build the largest embassy in Europe on top of London’s fiber-optic cables. We gave you Five Eyes. You gave Beijing a SIGINT platform in the heart of the City.
Gibraltar. Three hundred years. Actual sieges. Now the Spanish run your border checks.
You lost South Africa but kept the Falklands so we can overfly the Magellan Strait. Argentina could probably take that with rowboats today.
Your king kept ownership of the Canadian, Australian and New Zealand navies to fill the gaps. Those navies are now a laughing stock.
Your warships and bombers patrolled the GIUK gap. Now you don’t have enough but you also don’t want us buying Greenland. Fine. You do it. With what?
We gave London the @IMOHQ to regulate shipping, you backed the EU agenda to carbon tax every ship to build woke UN slush fund.
Iran closed Hormuz. In the ‘80s, 540 ships got hit. Lloyd’s never blinked. Because your navy was there. Now Lloyd’s cancels. Because it isn’t.
You scrapped your only amphibious ships. Sold them. To Brazil. You have more admirals than warships.
You built two light carriers but they keep springing leaks and you don’t have enough escort ships to support them.
The English Channel. Stopped Napoleon. Stopped Hitler. Now you can’t stop rubber dinghies.
You had one job.
Have the warships, diplomatic backbone and insurance to support shipping through the straits.
That’s it. That’s all we asked.
And you blew it. Chokepoint by chokepoint. Called it progress.
Now hundreds of ships are stuck in the Persian Gulf and the world is blaming us.
But that’s ok. All those solar panels you bought from China will keep you warm in that dreary weather I guess.
