Lawl if you think that the sgian dubh you see at a party or a football match is actually sharp. Most of them don’t even have a blade at all, such as the ones from most kilt hire shops. And most of us wouldn’t worry about a ban on the least, especially if someone used one to kill.

@hthieblot Leaving aside Grognard comments on earlier sites like Micronet and Prestel, and the idea that 2010 was "early"... I spent a bunch of time on usenet groups. I don't miss them per se - my overwhelming memory is that there was a lot of flamewarring going on - but I learned a lot.

Back when I was a carefree contractor, I worked with a bunch of guys at Scottish Provident whose hobby was getting variously subversive letters printed in the Daily Record. They had a scrapbook filled with literally dozens of them, including a series of epistles from Mr R. Hess in a back-and-forth exchange on air travel to the UK that lasted several days, in which they were both parties.

You invented the telephone, television, the condensing steam engine, tarmacadam, penicillin, ultrasound, ATMs, colour photography, MRI machines, refrigerators, disposable contact lenses, the mackintosh, pie and bar charts, pedal bicycles and pneumatic tyres, blast ovens, the reaping machine, radar, the first portrait gallery, golf, football, logarithms, the oil refinery, the incandescent light bulb, economics, sociology, modern geology and the concept of deep time, cloud chambers and (I just discovered) the world's first functioning tractor beam (2013)? I am impressed. You have truly lived a full life. And I'm just sticking to major Scottish inventions there. We're just 10% of the population of the rest of that picture.
