I did misjudge him from the few videos of his that I have watched. He came across as nuanced in those videos, but turned out to be not so smart or open minded(to put it mildly). Probably someone else writes the script for his videos. He just exposed himself as a malicious moron.

Firstly its not "European steppe" but Eurasian Steppe. Central Asia is a major segment of this steppe stretching from Ukraine to Mongolia. Secondly you don't need anything other than you own naked eyes, tradition of watching the stars and an oral tradition to record it. You don't need any advanced technology to do it. Many ancient societies had such a tradition, for religious and astrological reasons.

While Thuban as Dhruva reference is sign of an observation being made around 2300 BCE, it could have been made from many other places in the Northern Hemisphere including parts of Eurasian Steppes. It alone doesn't confirm the location as Indian Subcontinent unfortunately.

Fortunately yes. The tradition of Visnu Puranas Thuban as Dhruva was at around 2300 BCE and was observed in the IVC. The RV description of the rivers matches that at the times of IVC.

That the Mahābhārata is concomitant w/the Iliad can be seen through narrative parallels. Any rapprochment need not imply a direct derivation of one from the other, but it may point to a common kernel between both. One such association can be seen between Agamemnon & Duryodhana

@Leela371729 @yajnadevam Yamnaya were in early stage, while Iranians were closest to our own tradition, Greeks, Romans etc too were civilisations with literary traditions. And Hindu lore has lot of similarities with myths of other Indo European cultures.

Nothing unusual about it surviving in India. While not the same observations, we can see that Avestan Iranians also had similar tradition of (oral) textual exegesis, revision and orally passing down scriptures. While they may not have developed this tradition as much as Hindus did they definitely had something very similar and if not for Islam more of their scripture and tradition would have survived. There would have been many mobile Indo European tribes with kernel of similar traditions who all went their own way after Yamnaya, some of them founded civilizations, like our ancestors the Indo Aryans, Iranians, Greeks, Romans etc and rest would have languished as barbarians like Germanics and Celts or been destroyed by some circumstances or external enemies and left no trace.

@yajnadevam Yes, but they are a small minority with clear external origin. Though evolution never stops, to a great extent the majority of mainland Indian phenotypes are from the three major groups that are ancestral, though AASI people could have much more diverse.

@yajnadevam While there will great deal of diversity, its not completely random. If in an imaginary scenario a billion Chinese and a billion Scandinavians mix to form a new population, you will get a great diversity of phenotypes but you won't get people looking like Africans, for example.

These are some people with very steppe shifted phenotypes from India. How many of them look "Nordic" ? Nordic or typical Northern European phenotype evolved much later in Europe with clear influence from WHG and EEF phenotypes plus accelerated selection for fairer skin, blonde hair and blue eyes and this selection was most accelerated in Iron Age Europe. While a small minority of Sintashta may have had genes for lighter features, they were most likely a very small minority and even they wouldn't have been anywhere near as fair as modern Northern Europeans. We can easily confirm this by looking at groups in India with high MLBA ancestry(like the people below) and very rarely do you see features as light as that of Modern Europeans. If light features were ubiquitous or frequent among the steppe ancestors of Indians, these features would have been much more frequent in high MLBA groups. Many studies that have been used to reconstruct Sintashta are known to have been contaminated with modern European genes, hence many reconstructions floating around the internet are fake. And even if we look at other aspects of appearence like shape of Nose etc they were different in many ways. Modern northern European nose shape etc are influenced to a great extent by WHG and EEF genes. Yamnaya didn't really look European and neither did their Sintashta descendants. And it should be noted that no European has ancestry from Sintashta people, Its only the Indo-Iranians who have it and even within the Indo Iranians, its a very specific group who migrated to Indian Subcontinent and played a major role in the ethnogenesis of Indians. Even genetically, Europeans don't have R1a Z93 y chromosome that is found among Indo Iranians.

Iranians spend a lot of time in BMAC area before coming down south to what became Iran and Zoroaster was definitely leading a religious reformation in favour of settled people as opposed to more mobile cattle raiders. Our Indo Aryan ancestors were in latter group, and they reached India much before that and didn't live settled lives in Central Asia, they passed through BMAC relatively quickly and genetics confirm this. Indians(except a few in North Western part of the Subcontinent) dont have BMAC admixture whereas Iranians and other Iranics do.

Who said there arent "any cultural narratives/memories/reminiscences" in our scriptures. there are many, the only thing that doesn't exist is references to places, I explained why that is so. Stories and mythology from before arriving in India definitely exist, how else do you explain the common themes etc with Greeks and other IE traditions.
