It’s a good day to be a Hoosier in Washington. Indiana University opened its Capital Campus last night in our nation’s capital. As an IU alum, it was fun to help celebrate this milestone. The new campus opens doors for Hoosier students who want to study, serve, and build careers in Washington. Go Hoosiers! #IU

Last week in #IN06, I visited with seniors at Mill Race Center in Columbus for National Senior Health and Fitness Day. I lent a hand on a puzzle, heard what’s on their minds, and saw the important work Mill Race Center does to keep older Hoosiers active, connected, and engaged.

Indiana corn powers more than you think. Last week, I toured Cardinal Ethanol in Union City, where Hoosier corn is turned into fuel-grade ethanol used in E15. That’s American energy made right here in Randolph County. The House recently passed the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act to allow year-round E15 sales. I supported it because it’s good for corn farmers, good for Hoosier energy, and good for drivers looking for a lower-cost option at the pump. #IN06

I toured Clarity Care in Columbus, a not-for-profit serving women and families across our community. Their team supports expectant mothers with prenatal care, counseling, parenting courses, and other resources — all at no cost. Families facing big decisions should not have to face them alone. The fatal shooting of Brett Scrogham is heartbreaking and outrageous. Brett was a recent IU-Indy graduate with a bright future ahead of him. He was headed to an Indians game with his family when his life was taken. Families should be able to park downtown, walk to a ballgame, and come home safely. Public safety has to be the first responsibility of city leadership. My heart and prayers are with Brett’s family and friends.

Horrific update to breaking news I reported on Thursday. The young man shot in the parking garage in downtown Indianapolis near the convention center has died. The Marion County coroner confirms 23-year-old Brett Scrogham died from his injuries. Multiple sources have told me

I was in Trafalgar this week to announce that more than $1 million I requested for long-needed water infrastructure improvements has been included in an Appropriations bill. Trafalgar is small, but growing quickly. Its water system has served this community for decades, and it’s time for the infrastructure to keep pace. Clean water and reliable infrastructure aren’t optional for a growing town. I’ll keep working to get this funding over the finish line. #IN06

While in Columbus this week, I got a job-site update from Mayor Mary Ferdon on the Riverfront Redevelopment Project. Backed by $5.6 million in READI funds and $12 million in local funding, this project will improve the flood-prone Columbus riverfront and better connect the county’s outdoor trail system. The opening ceremony is set for October 23. Nothing like a deadline to keep a public project moving. #IN06

In Shelbyville with Major General Larry Muennich to announce $27.5 million secured for a new aviation maintenance hangar at the Army Aviation Support Facility. 900 Indiana Guardsmen serve out of this facility, supporting the aircraft that help keep our state ready at a moment’s notice. This funding delivers a modern facility built for the mission they carry out today and for years to come. @NationalGuardIN protects every corner of Indiana. I’m grateful to stand with them. #IN06

Prepared communities are safer communities. I got an up-close look at the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s mobile command vehicle. I secured $120,000 to upgrade this vehicle so it can better serve Hoosiers in the community when disaster strikes. This is the mobile command hub agencies rely upon when minutes matters. Thanks to Sheriff Lane for the tour and for the work his team does to keep Hoosiers safe. #IN06
