A weird thing the contemporary world is that the average secular person is very confident they have a rational and scientific worldview, yet they have tons of beliefs that are sort of very obviously mystical or “woo”. But this doesn’t register to them at all.

Listen, it's fine if you, as an individual, don't think Mormons are Christian. Or if you don't think Catholics are Christians. Or Protestants. But the GOVERNMENT should not be deciding who is and isn't Christian and THAT is the problem with what the Pentagon did.

The words Father, Son and Holy Spirit, have for the Mormons a meaning totally different from the Christian meaning. The differences are so great that one cannot even consider that this doctrine is a heresy which emerged out of a false understanding of the Christian doctrine. And for those who know the history of translation it’s just an imprecision of Latin (like many things) causing confusion in the west. And the filioque is fine depending on interpretation. Even found in eastern Catholic figures writings (as in, the concept).
One other point on religion-- even faiths that recite the Nicene Creed don't all agree on what the hell it means. The Church literally split in half, basically permanently, because Eastern and Western religious authorities couldn't agree with what trinitarianism actually meant!
